Online Reputation Protection for Business Owners
In today’s digital age, your personal online reputation matters more than anything. Personal reputation management for some can be handled independently but there a growing number of firms that claim they can make your personal online reputation shine and keep it shining. These firms claim to make any of the online profiles you most prefer rise to the top of search results, and in so doing, boost your personal brand. For many people, this might prove to be worth the cost of a few or more thousand dollars per year as many of the top firms charge. Depending on the severity or need, there are other services that can manage your personal / corporate online reputation for much less.
For those without a budget or any sticking online reputation issues, there is plenty you can do yourselves without the help of outside sources. In the end, it comes down to creating your own content which should include profiles that are optimized and float to the top, while pushing less desirable results to the bottom of the search result pages. Here are some things you all can do in the area of online personal reputation management. Start out by searching yourself by conducting a Google search using your name as well as using Google images. Set up Google alerts on any name or keyword you feel people would use to search for you and monitor the content that these alerts return. Buy your Domain NameThere are a few industry folks out there that say you should purchase a bunch of domains. Even at 12 dollars a year, this could get expensive. It will also leave you with too many domains to keep track of. The more cost-efficient approach would be using free-hosted domains or free blogs which lets you publish your content without buying a domain name or hosting service. The content you publish could include your resume, any articles you have written, perhaps post a narrative on any articles you’ve read. Optimize YourselfSome people feel that to have a barebones LinkedIn profile online is enough. Feel free to optimize it by editing it in a custom fashion. In the case of LinkedIn and many other similar sites, it gives you the option of providing other links. Put down the links of your social profiles, any articles you had published to build on that credibility and strengthen your online presence. Get SocialGet yourself out there on social sites, even if you do not have the time to be active. Fill out a complete profile of yourself on the major social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google +. Pinterest and Tumblr are also great sites as well as YouTube. If you find some that are tied more to your area of expertise, perhaps you can establish yourself there as well. There really is no shortage of sites and it will help you rise to the top of Google’s as well as the other key search engines. PrivatizeBe wary. Nothing on the Internet is truly private. You should assume this at all times. It could even be an ill-advised post you make on a facebook page that gives you trouble in the future. Stay away from posting embarrassing photos of yourself. Even if it is a private facebook post, know that Facebook and the others are always changing their privacy policies and what you might have assumed is private is now very public.
