Fake Travel Sites Target Vacationers with Fake Bookings
As peak travel season heats up, scammers are luring consumers with fake travel websites offering nonexistent flights, hotel rooms, and car rentals. BrandShield CEO Yoav Keren spoke with ABC7’s I-Team, revealing a spike in cloned travel domains mimicking legitimate booking platforms.
“These scams often start with social media ads and lead to fake sites that look nearly identical to real ones,” said Keren. “AI makes it easier for fraudsters to build convincing fake content.”
BrandShield’s monitoring tools have uncovered a rise in impersonated vacation brands—both large and small. To stay safe, Keren advises travelers to double-check domain names and avoid clicking on unfamiliar links.
