AI Deepfake Medical Scams Exposed on TODAY Show

A recent TODAY show investigation exposed a dangerous surge in AI-generated deepfake ads promoting fake medical treatments. These scams often feature manipulated videos of trusted doctors and celebrities, tricking vulnerable consumers into buying ineffective — and potentially harmful — products.

One victim, suffering from a chronic condition, lost $300 after believing a Facebook ad falsely featuring her real doctor was legitimate. The ad was created using AI deepfakes and promoted a non-existent treatment.

Yoav Keren, CEO of BrandShield, was featured in the segment, highlighting the scale and sophistication of these scams. He explained that this new wave of medical fraud is spreading fast across social platforms and is difficult to trace, with operations often run by global shell companies. “It’s about to explode,” Keren warned, pointing to the billions of dollars fueling the underground economy of fake health products.
